Why creating Learning Object Authoring Template?

Creating high-quality, user engaging learning objects can be a very costly investment. An interactive multimedia based learning object may cost anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000 (say a flash based interactive timeline).

The traditional way of creating learning objects are following the generic "ADDIE" model, which stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This requires the subject matter expert/instructors to explain the often "complicated" content or terminology to the instructional designers and the designers will then "translate" the topic to the technical developers (often programmers). Much information has been "lost" during this process. Learning object authoring template passes the steering wheel to the content experts, allows them to directly create, modify and update the learning object which ensures the accuracy of the learning contents.

Learning objects are created for reusability. However, educators very often find the available learning objects are not perfectly fitting their needs. Modifying the existing learning objects may cost just as much as creating a new one. Learning object authoring templates allow one to easily modify the existing learning object without the assistance of the original creator nor any technical experts.

If the learning objects can be described in a single language that both technical developers and the content experts understand - the language of teaching and learning. The design and execution process can be streamlined efficiently.
