Why Using Learning Objects?

Reusability is the most well known reason for using learning objects. Once the knowledge content being packaged as a learning object, the original designer can incorporate it into multiple applications without much additional effort. Other educators do not need to reinvent the wheel and simply "borrow", "modify" and "reuse" the content from the pre-existing learning objects.

Using learning objects can ensure high quality education contents being presented to the learners during the e-Learning practices. Since the learning objects are reusable, one can continuously build upon existing learning objects and make them into better quality content packages.

Copyright status of learning objects are usually cleared by the original creators before being distributed. This means, educators can freely use the learning objects without putting in much more effort on copyright issues.

Once a course is fully created, it is harder to reuse the entire content package for other courses. However, using learning objects can assure content being packaged in smaller units and assembling custom courses in a breeze.
